This assignment was a way to show what how we could draw each thing with just pencil. I hadn’t done realism in a while, so it was good to try again with shading and value.
Colored Pencil Forms
For this assignment we learned how to blend colored pencils and shade shapes. I also learned the basics of lighting and where shadows are cast.
Watercolor Techniques
This assignment have different techniques of how to use watercolor. This helped me learn new and unique ways to use watercolor and make paintings more interesting.
Watercolor Value Charts and Forms
This assignment taught the basics of value and shading with watercolor. From this assignment, I learned how to control the transparency of a color and how to blend the same color well.
Watercolor Fruit Studies
For this assignment, we were required to use watercolor to show the value and shading of our fruits. I chose to paint pears, and chose the color schemes of monochromatic, warm colors, complementary, and cool colors. For each pear, I began by adding a light layer of color to the fruits and gradually added more in the spaces where it was required. I used blending techniques in order to get a seamless look from dark to light on both the backgrounds and pears. This assignment helped me learn how to blend my watercolors better and how to properly show shadows and shading.
Watercolor Landscape Final Project
Final Artwork
This final project challenged us to recreate a landscape based off of multiple reference photos.I first began by painting the large rock formation, which I would now start by painting the sky. Some techniques I used were blotting for the grass and flowers as well as layering to create shading on the rocks. I also blended colors, especially in the sky and the reflection of the sun in the water. Overall, I like the way this piece turned out, although I would use different techniques such as starting lightly and waiting for the watercolor to dry so that colors don’t mix as easily.
Acrylic Mini Painting
This was a practice to help us learn how to use acrylic paint properly. I learned how to blend the paints well as well as the proper brush techniques in order to create seamless gradients.
This was the first time I used oil paint. At first, I didn’t like it because it was so different from previous paints I’ve used like acrylic. However, After this practice, I somewhat learned what to do and not to do with oil paint.
Animal Portrait Final
Brainstorming Ideas At first I wanted to paint a raccoon, but decided against it because it wasn’t colorful and unique enough. So, I decided on painting a red panda.
Self-Reflection Overall, this final choice painting helped me show what I’ve learned from this class. I decided to paint jellyfish because my mother asked me to make artwork for my Grandma's beach house. I painted this piece using acrylic paint and used different brush strokes in order to add different textures along both the coral in the background and the jellyfish. l may go back and make some final touches based on what my mom suggests after seeing it, but overall I am proud of the outcome of this artwork and hope to hang it up soon.
